G324 - Filming Day 2

For our second day of filming we again created an individual shot list for this specific scene so that we could quickly and efficiently get the shots we needed.

There was a lot of set dressing which needed to be done to transform the dining room into a convincing restaurant scene. Before we made our changes the room looked like this:

Once we had finished dressing the set we were pleased with the results and thought we had created a convincing restaurant that looked aesthetically pleasing on camera. Our cast were also dressed appropriately for the scene, tying the whole thing together.

We ran into a few issues when dressing our set. One of these problems was that the table cloth we wanted to use was very creased and did not fit the look of a real restaurant, to solve this problem we had to iron the tablecloth.

Once everything was prepared to a standard that we were pleased with, we began to film. In these photographs it can be seen that the lighting is quite dark, this is because often in restaurants they keep the lighting low for a romantic atmosphere, we wanted to follow this to keep our scene romantic.

G324 - Filming Day 1

On our first day of filming we set up our performance area for In Blue Skies. We did this by using the equipment in our drama studio to create a wall and then we covered this in black velvet (as we knew this absorbed light well), this created out back drop. We also covered the floor in black material to give the set consistency.

We then set up our camera equipment to see how the set looked on screen and also to adjust the lighting. To do this two of our group members stood in front of the cameras to make sure that they were not over exposed by the bright lighting and when the band arrived we would be prepared.

Once the band arrived they began setting up their equipment where we wanted them to, according to our story board. For example, we had specific band members standing in certain places on our story board and this is how we wanted them to appear.

To get our filming done as quickly and efficiently as possible we made a performance shot list and numbered each shot. Pairs of numbers meant that these two shots would be filmed at the same time in order to speed up the process of filming. As we continued we'd cross of the shots we had already done and move onto the next pair.

G324 - Health and Safety Whilst Filming

We will need to consider several safety precautions whilst filming to ensure the safety of our actors and crew.

-Actors nor crew can go into the sea (For the beach scene)
-Actors will be provided with appropriate clothing for the weather, i.e. an umbrella should it rain, when not on screen to prevent as best as possible any illness that it could potentially cause.
-Crew should take care and precautions when filming on uneven surfaces such as stones.
-We will need to ask permission of anyone who is in the shot by accident and has therefore not given consent (For example the park scenes)
-We must take care of the environment we are filming in, meaning we should not leave any litter after we have finished filming and left the location.
-We will try to not to get in the way of the general public and will keep noise levels to a minimum and if we are asked to move away, we will.
-If questioned of our intentions we will make sure we have evidence to provide that we are genuinely making a music video for our Media coursework.
-Whilst filming the campfire scene we need to ensure we have a fire extinguisher near by, just in case anything goes wrong.
- All actors and band members need to sign consent forms, so we have the right to use footage with them in.
-When filming the performance scene all wires from instruments should be securely taped down to avoid anyone tripping over.
-When using animals in a scene (park scene), we must make sure they are properly controlled so they do not become a public nuisance.

G324 - Final Location Choices

These are our final decisions on final locations as we all felt that would be most suitable for what we wanted.

Mersea Beach
We chose Mersea Beach as it was the closer location to us and it fit our music video aesthetically.

Admirals Park
We chose Admirals Park as it is a very large park which will give us a variety of areas to film in.

Hayley's House-Christmas
We chose to film in Hayley's house for the Christmas scene as all of the decorations were already in place. The room was also large enough for us to get the type of shots we need.
Katie's House-Restaurant
We chose Katie's house for the restaurant scene as it has previously used before for a restaurant set so we knew we would be able to achieve the look we wanted.
Abby's House-Campfire

We chose Abby's house for the campfire scene as it was the only location where we would be able to safely film a fire with people sitting around it.

G324 - Final Props Information

At each different location we decided to have as few props as possible for both safety reasons and also to limit the possibility of one of us accidentally forgetting something.

The Christmas location was the only one that needed real dressing, so we did this before filming started. The set involved placing up Christmas decorations all over the living room.

The park location we decided against having a picnic as we had decided it would look better on the beach. Instead, we used the dog of one of our group members for the park scene who would be suitable for a film shoot.

At the beach we decided to use a blue and green picnic blanket for the two actors to sit on and carry with them when on the beach. We used this because it gave the scene more purpose and gave reason why they were there. Also, the bright colours will add to the surroundings duller tones and made the focus more on our two actors.

Katie's house required some more extravagant set up like the Christmas scene. We need to have a table and a white sheet with two chairs in order to create a realistic looking restaurant scene. We also required three candles in order to make the scene look as realistic as possible.

For the performance scene we will need three large mirrors and numerous black sheets in order to create a back drop for our band. We will also require the lighting rig.

For our last location, we will need firewood, seats for the actors, a blanket for the actors, and marshmallows on sticks for each of the scenes.

G324 - Final Digipak and Poster After Feedback

Feedback for the digipak and poster:
-Like the colour scheme
-Good use of logos for social media websites, universal so everyone will know what they are
-Links in with scene in video
-Looks like an actual digipak
-Both relate to each other
-Information on poster is good
-Track list should maybe be on the outside
-Needs a spine
-Logo shouldn't have white background, looks weird
-More writing at the bottom of the poster
-Get rid of semi-colon in track titles
-Barcode is too big

From our feedback we changed several elements in our digipak and poster. We addressed the issues such as the digipak needing a spine, which we have now added. We also got rid of the white background on the logo so it doesn't look too obvious. We also made small changes such as getting rid of the semi-colon that was in one of the track names and we also made the barcode and social media logos smaller as they were too big. More writing was also added to the bottom of the poster as this is a general feature of actual magazine advertisements.

G324 - Final Digipak and Poster

These are our final designs for our digipak and poster. We decided to change the design for the poster and digipak as whilst editing our music video we discovered that the lyrics were not what we thought they were and a sunrise is not mentioned so we changed our idea. We reverted back to one of the original designs as it still fits in with our music video and we can carry the theme across the digipak, poster and video. We took the pictures whilst filming for a stronger link between the music video and ancillary tasks.

G324 - Final Shotlist

This is the second shotlist draft with duration of clips included that was not included on the draft shotlist. With the clip duration we will have an idea of how long we should be filming and have a specific idea of what we want when we go out on location.
